Don't worry, It's not broken!
Typically when the makeup automatically releases, it is due to the parts becoming loose allowing the needle to move from its most forward position in the stylus. The needle needs to be pushed all the way forward in the stylus and tightened in place to prevent this issue.
This is a simple fix! Please see the directions in the photo below:
